| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description ArcGIS is the newest and most powerful GIS technology from ESRI, and this comprehensive reference teaches Geographic Information System (GIS) technology users the concepts and methods for its customization. As ArcObjects are the building blocks of COM-based ArcGIS software, GIS professionals are given an introduction to basic object-oriented programming concepts and the classes, properties, and methods that make ArcObjects unique. Also stressed are the use of Visual Basic for Applications and the use of ArcObjects to modify the ArcGIS interface, change its basic operations, and create entirely new functionality. *NOTE* The book will not be published with a 180-day version of ArcView 8.1. It will include a CD with data needed to complete the exercises. The customer must own a licensed copy of ArcView, ArcEditor, or ArcInfo 8.3 or higher to run the exercises.

Excellent introduction to ArcObjects December 24, 2008 Even though this book was written for an earlier version of ArcGIS, it does not seem to matter. The beginning of the book is very basic, but I grew to appreciate that the author took a very thorough approach. ArcObjects are fairly complex, so having pretty straightforward programming methodology is helpful. The most clearly written programming book I have ever read.
Well laid out, comprehensive beginners approach to ArcObjects November 10, 2008 So I just got done reading this book for a class in ArcObjects. I have to say that I was very impressed. Each chapter introduces a new concept and contains exercises that the reader can easily follow along with. The beginning of the book focuses on Visual Basic ...errr basics, then the reader gets introduced to object-oriented concepts, before launching into using ArcObjects. This book is definitely a good starting point for the budding ArcObjects programmer, but by no means teaches you everything. As you will find out when you lay eyes on your first ArcObjects model diagram, there is a lot of ground to cover!
VBA and ArcObjects October 15, 2008 I have used this as as workbook in a class that introduces students to Visual Basic and ArcObjects. Book has a good combination of information with cookbook examples that covers many key points in ArcObjects. Students can do these assignments on their own. If you supplement workbook with open ended assignments students learn how to combine VB with ArcObjects. This combination has lead to student success.
Great October 4, 2008 It is really a useful book. Following the instructions in this book, you may learn VBA for GIS without a teacher. I gave 4 stars because I found another cheaper one several days later... Anyway, book is great!
the book is so useful September 28, 2008 the book I have purchased is useful for those who need to get started with the ArcObjects programming
