Product Description
You can count on Rick Steves to tell you what you really need to know when traveling in France.

With this guide, you’ll explore sleepy villages, romantic hill towns, and cosmopolitan cities, including Paris, Avignon, and Nice. Climb the Eiffel Tower, wander world-renowned museums, and dine at sidewalk cafés. Then escape to the sunny countryside, where you can explore castles of all shapes and sizes or pedal your way from village to vineyard. With its Swiss-like Alps, Italian-style Riviera, and Germanic Alsace, France offers Europe’s greatest variety. A good vin rouge is never more than a stroll away.

Rick’s candid, humorous advice will guide you to good-value hotels and restaurants. He’ll help you plan where to go and what to see, depending on the length of your trip. You’ll get up-to-date recommendations about what is worth your time and money. More than just reviews and directions, a Rick Steves guidebook is a tour guide in your pocket.

5 out of 5 stars French Vacation   August 2, 2010

I love Rick Steves' guidebooks so my opinion may be a bit biased. I have used his books on many self guided, self planned, Euro vacations. His helpful hints and pre-screening of sights makes my task of planning what to do and how long to stay much easier. This will be my first trip to France other than a short stay in Paris in 2000 and another in 2006, both courtesy of RS Paris guide books. The France 2010 guidebook is very similar in style to the others I have used (Germany, Italy, Prague, Eastern Europe, Norway, GAS combo). He has the country broken down by region with excellent transportation info and tips. I find the hotel advice the most helpful. While you can go to many internet search sites, you really don't know what you are getting. My experience with RS recommendations is that they are just as he describes them. My only advice, if he does not have a really good recommendation (like in Munich) use the internet since you are likely to find a cheaper place and it is a crap shoot anyway.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Planning Tool   July 30, 2010
Ronald Pedersen
Rick Steve and his staff continues to provide the reader with a handy and concise "tool" to plan your trip. The layout is easy to follow with topics "gathered" in sections for individual review if so desired. A great pick and choose source to carry on your trip as a continuing guide for food and shelter. Price comparisons and first hand information coupled with telephone numbers and individual contact sources make it your personal guide.
