4 out of 5 stars Good layout   September 13, 2008
GOod ideas in the book, but somehow the style of the drawings appear to be very old fashioned. I loved the gadget and travel tip boxes that are all over the book. The tricks for packing different types of bags are excellent.

5 out of 5 stars Smart Packing   August 21, 2008
Very good book. We took a trip for a weekend and I was able to"pack Smart" A lot of good ideas. Will to pack correctly and will be able to save money at airport--not havinf too many bags.

3 out of 5 stars Packs too much stuff   July 16, 2008
This book has several useful tips, but I disagree with her advice about traveling with casual luggage if you're on a business trip. Sturdy, lightweight and functional are much more important than looks. Also, most people can avoid immediately meeting someone for business right off the plane by scheduling an arrival accordingly.

Also, like other travel books, she goes overboard in the "try not to look like a tourist" advice. It's silly, because you can be a tourist in your own country if you are visiting a so-called "tourist spot". Yes, be careful with your possessions, but when your camera is safe in your pocket and not around your neck, guess what--you're going to miss that great picture because you had to pull your camera out of your pocket.

One thing I noticed is that the author recommended one store over many others, and didn't even mention that lots of travel items (like the little metal single cup immersion water heater gadget) are available in places like supermarkets and your better department/drug/variety stores.

This is another travel book that is geared towards people who are either staying in one place the entire time, or don't mind having to pay others to handle their luggage, as the author packs too much stuff, especially as far as gadgets. It doesn't really offer much to people who truly want to travel light--as in may have to carry their luggage with them all day, or have to navigate a lot of stairs when taking public transport--a wheeled bag just can't compete with a properly-packed backpack (or larger daypack) for speed when running to catch a train or ease of movement in general.

I did like that she had pictures of actual types of clothing to take, and how to mix and match them (although tying a sweater around your waist ruins the look of any outfit besides a truly casual one. Either wear it or leave it with the rest of your luggage.

3.5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Wish I Would Have Gotten This Book Sooner!!   May 4, 2008

I've gotten a number of packing-for-travel books in the past. This book is one of the best ones I have read, and I wish I would have gotten it sooner. I used a number of the packing suggestions for a business trip to San Antonio a couple of weeks ago. The advice and suggestions given in this book are true gems, and this book is definitely going to help me immensely for a longer trip I am taking in July.
