2 out of 5 stars Coffee table book, not a travel guide   September 4, 2007

If you are looking for a book to flip through and read about random odd places in Minnesota, this book if fine. If you actually want to try to visit some of them, don't bother. The book is not at all set up to help you actually find the places highlighted. Sights are not grouped geographically, and there is no index to let you do it yourself. Some of the entries I saw didn't even list which town they are in/near.

5 out of 5 stars An offbeat travelogue   January 23, 2007

This is an enjoyable coffee-table style book about odd things, places, events and people in Minnesota. In comparision to some of the other books in the "Weird" series, I felt that this one was better because it contains many things that are significant cultural or historical icons to Minnesotans, instead of simply bizarre things or painted-up junk in people's backyards found in some of the other books in the "Weird" series. For example, entries include Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox in Bemidji, the Kensington Rune Stone in Alexandria, museums of questionable medical devices, etc., things that have a story behind them. This book would make a good travel guide for those inclined to spend some leisure time in the land of 10,000 Lakes.
