Editorial Reviews:
Product Description This book compares two ideologically opposed examples of women's movements in Chile. It studies the women who mobilized against the democratically elected government of President Salvador Allende (1970-1973) and those who mobilized against the military dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990). The study documents and explains the similarities that exist between these two very different movements in terms of the moment at which they emerge and the way in which they frame their demands.

Great Book Analysising Women's Movements in Chile! May 21, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Highly Recommended Book! The writing is vivid in its historical descriptions of women's movements against two administrations - Allende and Pinochet. On top of this, the book gives enough of the background information that makes it comprehensive to Chile's history during those two periods. Unlike traditional historical accounts where they load up on theory and miss the historical, Professor Baldez does not color the evidence behind a sociological theory, but just reports narratives and conditions that lead to the development of social unrest and demand for change. I would highly recommend the book for anyone doing research over women's involved in Chile or social movement's formation.
