Book Description
This is an interactive documentary (Cd-Rom) about an expedition to the magical and beautiful southeastern region of Mexico. Guided by three young men we travel this 1000 mile journey, from Mexico City to the Caribbean Sea. On foot through deserts and snow covered mountains, rafting along virgin tropical rivers and biking the Mayan Route we discover timeless jewels hidden in this fascinating country. CAMINANTES is an adventure that escorts us through most of Mexicos greatest precolumbian cultures as well as its colonial heritage; we are introduced to the warmth of its people, its varied architecture, its unique customs and its breathtaking landscapes. A dynamic blend of entertainment and education. It can be enjoyed as a feature film (running time 75 minutes) and also explore interactively its 48 chapters with more than 1000 pictures, 35 quick-time videos, on-line maps, animations, scale models, didactic games and the most concise yet complete information (approved by the National Institute of History). Original musical score, bilingual narration (english and spanish) and sound FX. Runs both Mac or PC.

The CAMINANTES (hikers) start off in Mexico City and proceed east towards the Izta Volcano, reaching its snow capped peak at 16000 ft and then descending to visit two jewels of the colonial period, the cities of Cholula and Puebla. Then it is on to Cantona a pre-Hispanic walled-site with hundreds of avenues, 24 ball courts and vestiges of 4000 homes. The cities of Orizaba and Cordoba are of great interest to our travelers as are the picturesque towns of Tlacotalpan, Campeche and the white city Merida with its slow moving country charm. A visit to the witch doctor of Catemaco is an unusual experience which seems to haunt and intrigue the hikers. They stowaway on a freight train and must navigate various tropical rivers and lakes as they enter the still wild southeastern jungles. The Parque La Venta park museum takes them back in time 3000 years to the Olmecs; and the Mayan cities of Palenque, Chichen-Itza, Uxmal, the Puuc Circuit, Coba, and Tulum plunge them into the fascinating world of the most developed culture in Mesoamerica. Their adventure takes them across deserts and through rain forests where they face several dangers -one is attacked by a reptile; however, the beauty of scenery and the large variety of unusual fauna is well worth the risk.

The interactive index offers you the choice to pick your destination: whether to travel underground waterways or to raft down white-water rapids or snorkel mysterious lagoons or visit interesting museums: 1000 miles across Eternal Mexico.
